Who are we? |
|
LAFA was formed in 1990 and flies out of the Ultralight field at Homestead General Airport (X-51) Simply put, we are people who love to "respectfully defy the laws of gravity". We don’t need a destination or an excuse – just favorable weather and an ultralight. Our members include pilots of two and three axis ultralights, delta wing trikes, powered parachutes, ultralight trainers, gyrocopters, experimental category planes and light certified aircraft. Some are beginners, others have tens of thousands of hours of flying experience but we all share the thrill and enjoyment of flying. Club activities include bi-weekly breakfast fly-ins at Homestead General, safety seminars, formation flying, bean-bag target drops, torpedo runs and "carrier landings" among others. Our monthly fly-outs take us to destinations such as Marathon, Opa-Locka West and Everglades City. Monthly safety and club meetings are held at 7:30pm on the first Wednesday of the month at Debbie's Diner (Street address: 13787 SW 152nd St. - Map). Annual events include a Pig Roast in March, group flights to Sun 'n Fin in April, a club sponsored two-day Ultralight Air Fair at X-51 in early July, a Christmas Banquet, appearances at various other local aviation (and non-aviation) events, and candy-drops whenever any deserving group asks us to entertain children in a very unique way. Membership dues for EAA members are only $35.00 per year and include a subscription to our monthly newsletter. Non-EAA members can become benefactors for the same $35.00 and take part in all ground level activities. If you are interested in our sport or would like to learn more about LAFA, call our information hotline at (305) 242-0019, contact one of the club instructors, send an email to pilot@lafa.com, or stop by the field. We’ll be happy to answer your questions or arrange an introductory lesson.
