April 3rd - AMPS Aero Fest

For the second year in a row, LAFA was invited by the AMPS Aero Modeling club to make an appearance at their annual Aero-Fest; (the AMPS version of LAFA's annual Air Fair).

LAFA made a strong showing despite fairly strong quartering cross-winds.

Seven planes succeeded in safely landing on the model airplane runway, two more LAFA planes arrived by ground on trailers, and still two more flew over without landing for a total of eleven planes.  An excellent LAFA turnout!

AMPS members entertained the visiting spectators by demonstrating their considerable flying skills. Meticulously built models performed seemingly impossible flying feats such as vertical hovering and vertical take-offs (we were wondering what it would be like in a UL or LSA!).

At mid morning, the runway was closed temporarily so that four of the LAFA planes depart.  This added some variety to the show for the spectators.

Shortly after noon, the remaining three planes also departed, but not before making a few strafing runs to drop candy for the eager kids.

Thank you AMPS for honoring us with your invitation.  We had a great time and hope we added color to your Aero-Fest.
