LAFA's annual
tradition of bombarding kids at Dodge City with candy from the skies
in December took place on Sunday the 21st this year. Although a bit
windy, the weather was basically cooperative and about seven LAFA planes (including
a Powered Parachute carrying Santa Donald) took part in the mission.
There were two
sorties. One at 13:15 HRS, and a second one at 15:15 HRS. On our way
to the drop zone, some of us detoured to the glider club who overheard us on
their frequency. They were hosting a party for kids, and asked if we
could do a fly-by. We were happy to oblige, and even threw in some
candy.

Operation "Sweet
Tooth" squadron, loaded and ready for action. Pilots make last
minute adjustments to their bomb dropping contraptions.

For the first time
in LAFA history, almost all bomb drop mechanisms work as intended. I
don't think any candy went through props, no drop mechanisms departed from
the aircraft with the candy, and targets were actually hit. We must
be getting good!!
The predominant
trend this year involved the use of mailboxes as drop mechanisms.
This officially qualified the candy as Air Mail.

Look
at all those happy, smiling faces!
