May 10th, 2003 -  X51 Breakfast Fly-in & Safety Seminar

The weather was perfect, there was a good turnout and the breakfast was great.

Thank you LAFA volunteer Chefs!

Our scheduled speaker didn't show, but that just became an excuse for the rest of us to loosen our jaws.  First to eat, then to talk.

We ended up having a question and answer "free-for-all" which turned out remarkably well.  The end result was an exchange of interesting, useful, and sometimes surprising information.

A large number of new faces was present. Welcome aboard new LAFA prospects! (now how 'bout mailing in that check guys?).

After the seminar, three of us (Adler Constant, Donny Amador and Peter Volum) took off for a beach run that included a 90MPH race against two offshore racers, a low and slow "check out the babes" flight over the sandbar, and the usual South Beach run that makes me wish I had auto-pilot and a more powerful longer zoom lens.

The water was very clear, but for some reason there were less stingrays and sharks than usual.

At one point, a yellow and orange plane on pontoons (that may have been a Drifter) joined our group and flew around with us for a while before we headed back to the field.

All in all, great weather for flying and a great LAFA day.

Next time let's do the beach run with a dozen planes!
