Jan 2003 - Fruit & Spice Park

LAFA's annual display at the Fruit and Spice Park's annual Redlands Natural Arts Festival consisted of Donald Dagenhart and Mike Harwood with Donald's Powered Parachute and Ron, Claire and Ida with their Quicksilver.

Larry Raboin and Suzan Tinny arrived around midday both Saturday and Sunday to assist. We set up early Saturday morning with temperatures in the mid 40's. The cloud cover persisted all day to produce chilly winds out of the Northeast all day. This kept the attendance down and we only had around 15 people come to our booth Saturday. Sunday produced warmer weather and a larger attendance. At times we had up to 15 people at a time looking at our machines and asking questions.

The biggest attraction was Donald's Powered Parachute. This was the first year that we had a machine like this at our display. Everyone wanted to know what it was and how it could fly without wings. Donald and Mike kept busy explaining the operation and how the parachute acts as a wing to give them lift. We had quite a bit of interest in our club and handed out several membership applications. I had people tell me that our booth alone made the visit to the event worthwhile.

Hopefully this will bring in several new members.
