November 2002 PanAir Picnic at Richards Field

O.K., O.K,.... this wasn't really a LAFA event, but it was held at Richards Field where four of our members keep their planes.  It involved flying and fun, so... some of us just had to go!.

This was Tamiami's PanAir Flying Club's first annual Picnic.  The event lasted almost all day and included the live Jazz Band (Brothers is Jazz), a catered BBQ lunch, rides in two of PanAir's four Cessnas and some really great door and raffle prizes for the 200 attendees.

The Miami Glider Club was also present.  They flew in some gliders from their home base a few miles away and spent their time giving introductory flights to prospective soaring enthusiasts.

The Richards Field regulars were also there flying vintage Champs, Cubs, Chiefs, Monocoupes,  Stearmans and Ryans among many others.  (My Kolb must have felt a bit lonely surrounded by all those GA planes, but I was pleased to notice that it attracted more attention than the traditional planes).

Rob Mixon spent much of his day overhead giving aerobatic demonstrations and lessons in his Citabria (hopefully to students that had not yet eaten).

It was an exciting, event-filled day from start to finish.  Kudos to Steve Barnes for orchestrating a terrific event!

We look forward to PanAir's second annual picnic next year where we hope that LAFA will be represented in a more formal manner.
